Helicopter Tour Over the Uluwatu Coast
The Uluwatu coast is Bali's most dramatic stretch of shoreline. Sheer limestone cliffs rise 70 meters from the Indian Ocean, hiding beaches accessible only by cliff stairs or sea. From a helicopter you see all of it at once.

The Bukit Peninsula's southwestern tip is a world apart from the rest of Bali. Here, limestone plateaus end abruptly in sheer cliffs that drop into the deep blue Indian Ocean. Ground-level visitors see one beach at a time, one viewpoint at a time. A helicopter changes everything. From 1,000 to 1,500 feet you watch the full coastline unfold below: the succession of hidden bays, the surf breaks that world-class surfers have made famous, and the ancient temple perched on the cliff's edge as if defying gravity.
What You Will See Over Uluwatu
Your flight path follows the southern coastline of the Bukit Peninsula. The defining landmark is Pura Luhur Uluwatu, an 11th-century sea temple built on a promontory jutting into the ocean. From above, the temple's split gates and stone courtyards are clearly visible against the sheer cliff backdrop. Just below the temple, the cliff face is riddled with caves that open onto small beaches at low tide. Moving east, you pass over Padang Padang Beach — a narrow strip of sand reachable by squeezing through a cave opening at ground level, but completely visible from the air. Further along the coast, the bays of Bingin, Impossibles, and Balangan open up below, each with its own character: Bingin's tiered warung terraces, Impossibles' long left-hand wave, Balangan's wide crescent of sand lined with palm trees.
The Surf Culture from Above
Uluwatu hosts one of the world's great surf breaks, a hollow left-hander that peels along the base of the cliffs. From a helicopter, the geometry of the wave is spectacular — you can trace the swell lines coming in from the Indian Ocean, watch them hit the reef, and see the wave unfold in slow progression from the outside to the inside section. On good swells, the surf breaks over 300 meters of reef. This is a perspective no surfing video can capture. Even if you have never surfed, seeing the scale of the ocean in relation to these cliffs from the air is a profound experience.
Hidden Beaches and Sea Caves
One of the most striking things about the Uluwatu coastline from the air is how many secret beaches there are. From the ground, most are inaccessible except by narrow cliff paths or dangerous scrambles. From a helicopter, you see beach after beach, cove after cove, most of them completely empty. Some are white sand tucked into slots between the cliffs. Others are black sand pockets at the base of sea caves. The contrast between the stark white limestone, the brilliant turquoise water, and the deep blue of the open ocean beyond creates a color palette that looks almost unreal.

The Uluwatu Coastal Flight is 30 minutes. This is enough time to cover the full southern coastline of the Bukit Peninsula, including Uluwatu Temple, Padang Padang, Bingin, Impossibles, and Balangan Beach, at a comfortable viewing altitude.
What is the best time of day to fly over Uluwatu?
Late afternoon between 15:30 and 17:00 is ideal. The sun comes from the west and lights up the cliff faces and temple beautifully. Early morning flights also work well, especially on clear days when the visibility extends to Lombok on the horizon.
Can I see the Uluwatu surf break from the helicopter?

Is the Uluwatu flight included in the Full Island Tour?
Yes. The Full Island Tour (60 minutes, $500) covers the entire island including the Uluwatu coastline, making it a great choice if you want to see Uluwatu alongside the volcanic highlands, Ubud rice terraces, and the north coast in a single flight.
